Communications Ministry, FBR directed to ensure Afghan perishables items smooth transportation
Islamabad: Federal Finance Minister, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Thursday directed Communications Ministry and Federal Board of Revenue officials to ensure smooth transportation of perishable items for Afghanistan through Afghan Transit Trade ATT.
He was chairing meeting convened for speedy transportation of goods to and from Afghanistan through Wagah land border and Karachi port including vegetables, food, spices, other items. It was decided that report of daily movement of containers carrying perishable items crossing Pak-Afghan border would be submitted to the Minister. Customs authorities, being facilitator of ATT should start working on issuance of guarantee - 60 days for perishable items and file a report so that a regime be incorporated for mutual satisfaction of Pakistan & Afghanistan. It also discussed making more utilization of Dry port at Peshawar, strengthening Customs control and monitoring of ATT so that no leakage takes place from Karachi to Torkham and back, and from Afghan border to Wagah border. Transportation capacity between Karachi port to Torkhum border was also discussed with aim to make transit regime more and more efficient.
