US golfer Woods finds old habits hard to shake

LA JOLLA, California - Golf fans and sponsors may be yearning to see the dominant player they call the "old" Tiger Woods resurface, but Woods himself says too much "old" Tiger is just his problem. "The old motor patterns are still there," said Woods, lamenting the fact that his remodeled swing has yet to stand up consistently to tournament pressure. "I'm going to have to fight through that. I've done it before, and there's no reason I can't do it again." Woods, who undertook the changes with Canadian coach Sean Foley last year, appeared to have made real headway by the Chevron World Challenge unofficial event in December. But he finished tied for 44th - his worst US PGA Tour season-opener - with an erratic display at the Farmers Insurance Open last week. He admitted he had expected more at Torrey Pines, where he had won his last fiv...

Protests in Egypt: Lively, but a calm before the storm

Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- Fed up with years of corruption, poverty and lack of opportunity, activists in Cairo, Alexandria and other restive Egyptian cities robustly took to the streets in peaceful rallies Monday. Angry demonstrators continue to protest the rule of embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who remains in power despite repeated grass-roots calls for his ouster and widespread dissatisfaction over his Cabinet selections. But many observers regard the seething rage of the past week as the calm before the storm. Egyptians plan another huge wave of demonstrations on Tuesday, "million-man" marches in Cairo and Alexandria that will occur a week after the historic anti-government protests began. Egyptian security forces in Cairo have been setting up concrete barriers around key locations ahead of the march, including iconic sites such as Tahrir, or Liberation, Square, the Egypt State TV building, and the Interior Ministry. The ongoing demonstrations, inspired in part by...

Segera Bawa Pulang Rakyat Malaysia

Anticipating The Declining of Food Production

Image
The government is ready to open an additional two million hectares of land for agriculture in anticipation of declining food production resulting from climate change and extreme weather, a top official said. Agriculture Minister Suswono said on Friday that the worlds major food-producing countries had recently seen a shortfall in production due to uncertain climatic conditions, leading to a steady decline in global food stocks. Given these pressures, he said, it was important that food-producing nations such as Indonesia put a hold on exporting their produce in order to safeguard stockpiles. Looking ahead, the quantities of food commodities traded in the international market will get smaller, while at the same time food demand will continue to increase, he said. This will lead to higher prices for food commodities in the international market. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations recently reminded countries of the need to strengthen their food stocks in the face o...

Chavanont Intarakomalsut, secretary to the foreign affairs minister, told journalists that the statement issued by the Cambodian foreign ministry charging that Thailand had violated Cambodian integrity and sovereignty would not help provide a conciliatory atmosphere for talks between the two neighbouring countries aimed at resolving the border problem under the Thai-Cambodian Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) framework. Thai Patriots Network (TPN) legal advisor Wanwipa Charoonroj said members of the group were unable to survey the area where the two Thais -- Veera Somkwamkid and his secretary Ratree Pipattanapaiboon -- were arrested by Cambodian soldiers on Dec 29 because permission was not granted by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban although Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had ordered related government agencies to help facilitate their travel to the disputed border area. Who and What Anwar is actually still a mystery

A simple recap, in 1972 he formed ABIM and served as their leader. In 1982, he surprised everyone joining UMNO. In 1993, he was made the DPM after forcing out Ghafar Baba. In 1999 after his incarceration, PKR was formed and the rest I guess is the new politics that we see today with the same old political agenda. The economist ran a pretty decent piece on him with facts and actuality as they described him as the Malaysian chameleon see link http://www.economist.com/node/14140818 Now lets get down to facts to see whether he is a chameleon. While in ABIM, it was a Muslim agenda, then in UMNO, it was more a Malay agenda by introduced numerous pro-Malay policies in the national school curriculum. One of the major changes that he did was to rename the national language from Bahasa Malaysia to Bahasa Melayu. I wonder where One Malaysia or Malaysian First fits in here. Other notable events such as the Kampong Rawa incident on March 1998 where there was a tense stand-off when p...

What is the Muslim Brotherhood?

Image
London, England -- The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt this week urged its followers to protest after Friday prayers -- the first time in the latest wave of unrest the group has made such a call. What is the Muslim Brotherhood? The Muslim Brotherhood is a religious and political group founded on the belief that Islam is not simply a religion, but a way of life. It advocates a move away from secularism, and a return to the rules of the Quran as a basis for healthy families, communities, and states. The movement officially rejects the use of violent means to secure its goals. However, offshoots of the group have been linked to attacks in the past, and critics blame the Brotherhood for sparking troubles elsewhere in the Middle East. Many consider it the forerunner of modern militant Islamism. When was it created? The Muslim Brotherhood has been part of the political scene in Egypt for more than 80 years. It was formed there by Hassan al-Banna in 1928. Teacher Al-Banna and his followers were i...

BANGKOK, Jan 28 - As Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said he planned to talk with Thailand's yellow-clad People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) on the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, key protest leaders on Friday said it is too late for the talks and that the movement will seek a consensus of its members to intensify its anti-government campaign this weekend. PAD key leader Chamlong Srimuang reasserted the group's stance as they continued their rally outside Government House on the fourth day. The prime minister said prior to his departure to attend the World Economic Forum in Switzerland that concerned officials were scheduling talks between his government and the Yellow Shirt leaders to find mutual understanding on the Thai-Cambodian border dispute after he comes back from the overseas trip.
