Suspect in Dr. Imran case released

LONDON: A suspect who was in the custody of investigative authorities in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movements (MQM) Dr. Imran Farooq has been freed while grilling of another suspect is underway, News reported.

According to London Police, the released accused was detained on suspicion of involvement in crimes of murder and robbery and that the investigation was still in progress.

They said the scope of investigation had been widened further. One more suspect, whose name cannot be disclosed, is still in police custody and he was presented before magistrate on Jan 6, the police added.

Geo News, with reference to the court sources, said in documents with the court a man named Mansoor Khan appears as the main accused in the murder case of Dr. Imran Farooq. Mansoor Khan is the friend of the suspect in custody of police.

It is pertinent to mention here that Dr. Imran Farooq was assassinated outside his house in central London on September 16, 2010.

The anti-terrorism unit of Scotland Yard is investigating the case.

61st Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards

An Ateneo faculty member won in the Filipino division, while a San Diego-based writer got the award in English, the Palanca awards organizers announced Thursday. Pinoy photographers to hold Mount Pinatubo exhibit in US

A group of Filipino photojournalists, who covered and survived the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, will hold in San Francisco in the United States a Mount Pinatubo@20 Photo Exhibit or 20 years after what was called the volcanic eruption of the century. Organized by the Philippine American Press Club-USA and Philippine News, Americas oldest Filipino-American newspaper, the exhibit will be staged for two days October 11 and 12 at the Social Hall of the Philippine Consulate at 447 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA 94108.
