FIFA dismisses report of change in football calendar
Zurich: The world governing body FIFA has no plans to make changes to the football season following a report in Germany that leagues could run within a calendar year in future. FIFA said in a statement on Thursday there are at present no concrete plans to change the international match calendar. Germanys Sport Bild weekly said FIFA and European body UEFA intended to change league seasons in Europe to run from April to October rather than from August to May as at present in Europes top leagues. World Cups and European Championships would be played in February & March rather than in a European summer, according to report citing information from innermost circle of UEFA. Leagues would run from April to October, Champions League final would be played in autumn and internationals held in a six-week period starting from November, it said.
