United States Lahore Consulate employee kills two in Lahore

Lahore:A United States Lahore Consulate employee Thursday killed two persons in what he called an act of self-defence against a purported armed robbery attempt, Police said. Police officer Aslam Tareen said the accused told police in preliminary investigations that he stopped his car at a traffic signal when he saw two motorbike riders coming toward him.

One of bike riders had a pistol in his hand, and I fired at him in self-defence, Tareen said, quoting the American national. It is his claim, but we are investigating the case. A spokesman for US Embassy in Islamabad Alberto Rudriguez said the Embassy was trying to glean the circumstances surrounding the killings. But I can confirm that he is employee of our Lahore Consulate. Another person was also killed at the same spot when a car, also from the US consulate, hit him. Later a large number of people gathered at the spot of incident to protest the killings.
