Severe shortage of fertilizer, price hike as dealers resort to hoarding

Jhudo: The growers of Badin and Mirpur Khas districts are faced with severe shortage of fertilizer, artificially created by the dealers to charge high rates. The market survey in two districts revealed that the fertilizer dealers are charging Rs.100/- to Rs.150/- higher than the actual rate on a single bag. As a result the a fertilizer bag is being sold at Rs.1200/- against the government-fixed rate of Rs.1040/-. The growers are worried on artificial shortage of fertilizer and its high rates, as the fertilizer is direly needed for the wheat crop in current season. The wheat has been sown in both the districts over a vast area due to timely and required supply of irrigation water. The growers while expressing concern on shortage of fertilizer apprehended that wheat crop could be affected if it did not get the fertilizer timely.
