UNICEF plans 4000 temporary learning centers in Sindh

Karachi, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) will establish 4000 Temporary Learning Centers (TLCs) in the rain affected areas of Sindh province to provide hygiene and health awareness education to 200000 students besides making sure that the students continue with their normal schooling.

This was decided in a meeting between Senior Minister for Education Sindh Pir Mazharul Haq and Unicef representative in Pakistan, Dan Rohrnann, held in Karachi. Later, on the directives of the Senior Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, Secretary Education Muhammad Sidiq Memon met with Unicef Education Specialist Shahla Rashid-ud-Din and Ms. Sony Spencer Unicef Education Specialist for emergency areas. The meeting decided that under the TLC programme Sindh Education and Literacy Department will provide teachers and Unicef will hold training sessions for the selected teachers. The TLC programme will also train young students about child protection. On this occasion Secretary Education Sindh, Muhammad Sidiq Memon, nominated additional secretary Education Ashfaq Ahmad Qadri as the focal person to monitor the TLC program.
