Indonesian best seller hits Seoul bookstores
(The Jakarta Post): Andrea Hirata, the author of Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Warriors), says that he is very pleased that the best-selling Indonesian novel has been available in bookstores in South Korea since August.
It turns out that an Indonesian writer can exist in the international market, just like other Asian writers from China and India, he said on Saturday as reported by kompas.com.
It was time for Indonesians to think broadly about the international market which, Andrea said, likes Indonesian products.
The chance for Indonesian writers to write and to inform the global community is actually big. People out there like the culturally specific stories about culture and social life in Indonesia.
The novel was the first part of a trilogy including Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer) and Edensor.
The book has reached India and Australia, Andrea added.
