Paistan spent a trillion rupees on ''corrupt'' state-owned companies in 4 years without gain

Islamabad,The Pakistan Government spent over one trillion rupees in the last four years on corruption-infested state-owned corporations, but did not bother to restructure them despite repeated promises and public commitments, according to a news report.

In spite of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilanis commitment, the regime has utterly failed to implement its own reforms programme to check corruption and improve governance that included restructuring of the eight corruption-hit and mismanaged loss making public sector enterprises, The News reports.

The restructuring was to be completed by September 1, 2010, but the government hardly moved an inch to achieve the goal and stop the wastage of almost 300 billion rupees per month on these state-enterprises, the report said.

The National Governance Plan had recommended an immediate cut in the size of the federal secretariat by reducing the number of federal ministries down to 30, giving protection of tenure to key bureaucrats and heads of government organisations, and introduction of motorway policing model throughout the country.

It also recommended rationalisation (reduction) in the size of the Prime Ministers Secretariat, pay to government servants on the basis of performance, filling of strategic positions through open competition and computerisation of land revenue record, court cases, police record, property tax, etc.

However, none of these reforms has been implemented as yet, the report added.
