Irked CDGK fumigation teams decide reducing working hours
Karachi: Fumigation teams and workers of City District Government Karachi carrying out channelization of drains in various towns have lambasted the management for exploiting them without assigning proper working hours, lack of adequate security and non-payment of overtime allowance and have decided to reduce their working hours.
During a general body meeting of workers held at KMC workshop on Friday, it was decided that around 600 workers carrying out fumigation and channelization of drains (nullahs) would not perform duties after 4 pm as CDGK had not been paying them overtime allowance and compelling them to work till midnight hours. Chairman CDGK CBA union Syed Zulfikar Shah told PPI that other fumigation teams working in the city would soon halt their duties if security not provided and overtime allowance not paid. He said some of the workers had been looted and deprived of their valuables in Jamshed Town, Malir and Lyari areas while returning from their duties late night recently. He said similar was the case with malaria fumigation teams who are being forced to work extra hours. He said all workers had now categorically been directed not to work during extra timings till CDGK pay heed to their concerns.
