No security provided to Hafiz Mughees, Muneeb's family despite life threats
SIALKOT: The Sialkot police still remain unable to provide security to the family of the Hajipura-Sialkot city based two lynched brothers Hafiz Mughees and Muneeb Butt due to some unknown reasons, despite the repeated appeals made by the family to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Punjab.
Talking to the newsmen here on Thursday, lynched brothers' grand-father Khawaja Muhammad Anwar, father Khawaja Muhammad Sajjad and uncles Khawaja Muhammad Amjad and Zarar Butt said that the lives of the family members at risk, as the some unknown accused belonging to Buttar-Sialkot village were continuously threatening them with dire consequences after the September 20, 2011 verdict by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in nasty Sialkot lynching tragedy case.
They said that they were unable to move freely and send their children to schools following the growing threats, forcing the family for compromise with the convicts' families or forgiveness to the convicts in the case. They alleged that after ATC verdict, in which former Sialkot DPO Waqar Ahmed Chohan and other policemen were also convicted, the Sialkot police was allegedly adopting the delaying tactics in providing security to lynched youths' family. During a press conference, the family along with its counsel Dr. Shakeel Thakur Advocate had strongly criticized Sialkot SP (Investigation) Nasir Muneef Qureshi for character assassination of the lynched brothers and their families. Family had demanded immediate dismissal of this SP or his transfer from Sialkot. They said that if the said family suffers from any loss of life or property, then Sialkot police will be responsible fully for that loss.
