Cabinet extends security law enforcement in Bangkok

BANGKOK, March 22 - The Thai Cabinet on Tuesday extended implementation of the Internal Security Act (ISA) in Bangkoks seven districts for another 30 days as it is due to expire on Friday.

The Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) asked the Cabinet to extend the ISA from March 26 through April 24.

The ISA was Imposed from Feb 9 through 23, but later extended through Mar 25 to facilitate the security agencies handling of protests by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), also known as the 'Yellow Shirts,' the Red Shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) in the capital.

The seven districts include Dusit, Phra Nakorn, Wattana, Ratchathewi, Wang Thonglang, Pathumwan and Pom Prap Sattru Phai.

The PAD Yellow Shirts have encamped near Government House on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue since Jan 25, demanding that the prime minister and his entire Cabinet resign for their alleged mishandling of the ongoing border dispute with Cambodia which has led to deadly clashes between the two countries.
