Launch of Pakistan flood survivors survey postponed

ISLAMABAD,A survey commissioned by Oxfam and carried out by Pakistani NGO Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) reveals that eight months after the floods began, survivors are struggling with huge challenges in rebuilding broken lives and communities.

Neva Khan, Country Director of Oxfam in Pakistan and Fatima Naqvi, programme manager of the Land Rights and Economic Opportunities department, had announced to speak out a press conference during the launch of survey but the event has now been postponed. It was earlier scheduled to be held today (Thursday) March 31 here at a local hotel. As Pakistan begins the process of reconstruction following the floods, Oxfam is releasing the surveys results to put the voice of 18 million flood affectees at the centre of national and international efforts to rebuild the country. The survey polled over 2,000 people in Pakistans most seriously flood-hit areas. Survivors were asked about their needs and what they thought Pakistan needed to prioritise as the country rebuilds. They were also asked to rate the effectiveness of the response of NGOs, the government as well as international donors. The survey aims to provide an insight into the needs of the affectees so that the government of Pakistan and the international community can better tailor their early recovery and reconstruction plans and activities to meet these needs. Attendees are requested to arrive at least 15 mins before the scheduled start of the press conference in order to allow time for registration and security procedures.
