UAE is closely monitoring and testing food coming from Japan: Environment Minister
Abu Dhabi, March 27 (WAM) - The UAE has taken precautionary measures for monitoring and testing food items imported from Japan and its neighbouring countries to ensure they are not contaminated with radiation, Dr.Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, has affirmed.
The measures are in light of recent developments in Japan '' A group of national laboratories are conducting these tests,'' he said while addressing a ceremony hosted by the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology to mark the World Meteorological Day, which falls on 23 March every year.
Each year, on 23 March, the World Meteorological Organisation, its 189 Members and the worldwide meteorological community celebrate World Meteorological Day around a chosen theme. This day commemorates the entry into force, on that date in 1950, of the WMO Convention creating the Organisation. Subsequently, in 1951, WMO was designated a specialised agency of the United Nations System. This year, the theme is "Climate for you". The Permanent Arab Committee for Metrology concluded its 27th session hosted by Abu Dhabi during 19 to 24 March with the participation of delegations representing 14 Arab countries.
