Schwarzenegger to Visit Central Kalimantan

Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to visit Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, to attend the Governors Climate Forum, which will be held in September 2011.

The forum is a meeting of governors from around the world set to discuss climate issues. Palangkaraya will serve as host this year.

Central Kalimantan Governor Teras Narang said that Schwarzenegger will act as a speaker in the forum.

Arnold, who is an environmental activist with great compassion for our climate issues, is scheduled to come as a speaker, he said on Friday, as reported by kompas.com.

Schwarzenegger, who was once a Hollywood action star, helped initiate the forum.

Central Kalimantan has been chosen as the host because it has shown progress in dealing with environmental issues over the last five years.

Governors from around 30 countries, including the United States, Brazil and Malaysia are scheduled to attend the forum.

Teras added that the governors invited were those who have shown commitment to climate change and concern for reducing carbon emissions.

An Ateneo faculty member won in the Filipino division, while a San Diego-based writer got the award in English, the Palanca awards organizers announced Thursday. Pinoy photographers to hold Mount Pinatubo exhibit in US

A group of Filipino photojournalists, who covered and survived the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, will hold in San Francisco in the United States a Mount Pinatubo@20 Photo Exhibit or 20 years after what was called the volcanic eruption of the century. Organized by the Philippine American Press Club-USA and Philippine News, Americas oldest Filipino-American newspaper, the exhibit will be staged for two days October 11 and 12 at the Social Hall of the Philippine Consulate at 447 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA 94108. Organized by former Manila Bulletin photographer Nick Sagmit and former Times Journal photojournalist Ed Galvez, the exhibit will feature photographs during and after the eruption on June 15, 1991.
