China sees no immediate threat from radioactive leaks in Japan
BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- China will not be affected over the next three days by radioactive leaks from Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, according to weather reports on Tuesday.
China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee said in a statement that the accident has not yet had any impact on China's environment or the Chinese public's health.
China will remain unaffected during the next three days as radioactive materials spread toward Pacific waters east of Fukushima, according to a weather forecast at 4 p.m. on Tuesday from a Beijing-based emergency response center affiliated with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Experts from the China Atomic Energy Authority agree that the situation has stabilized in the crippled nuclear power plant, which was damaged by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami on March 11.
The State Oceanic Administration detected no abnormal radiation levels in waters off the Chinese coast and announced that these waters will not be affected by radioactive leakage in the next three days as the currents off the coast of Fukushima flow east.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said that environmental monitoring across the country continues to show normal radiation levels, according to the statement. (Xinhua)
