Four including cleric killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Four people including a cleric were killed in different firing and violence incidents in Karachi on Friday, police said.

In the first incident a prayer leader was shot dead while going to lead the Fajjar prayer in Solider Bazaar area. A duty officer at Solider Bazaar Police Station said that Mulana Irshadullah Abbassi, 45 son of Mulana Abdullah Abbassi was on his way to lead Fajjar Prayer at Dua Masjid when unidentified armed men riding a bike opened fire on him near the Mosque in Garden East area and escaped. The victim died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. The victim was the resident of Moon Apartments, Garden East area and had been leading prayers at Dua Masjid for last 25 years. He was also a teacher at seminary Jamia Binoria. The body was later handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities. No case could be registered till filing this report. Separately, two men were found dead in the limits of Pak Colony Police Station. SHO Pak Colony Station Malik Ayub said that the police found the torture marked body of a man in his late twenties from Kaleem Awami Guard Street on early Friday morning in Pak Colony area. He said that the victim was strangulated to death before being tortured adding that his identity was yet to be ascertained. Malik Ayub said that the police recovered another body of a man in his early forties packed in a gunny bag near Mewa Shah Graveyard.

He said that the hands and feet of the victims were tied with a rope and he was shot after torture. The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. Later, they were shifted to Edhi morgue for want of identification. Separately, Gulshan Police recovered the bullet riddled body of a man packed in a gunny bag. A duty officer at Gulshan Police Station ASI Mohammad Ali Shah said that the police received information ! from som e passersby about the bullet-riddled body of a man ditched near Saleema Center in Gulshan Block 11. It was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. Duty officer further added that the victim seemed to be in his mid twenties and his identity was yet to be ascertained. The body was later moved to Edhi morgue for want of identification.
