Putin to visit Denmark, Sweden to talk on hydrocarbons production
MOSCOW, April 26 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Tuesday is embarking on a two-day Scandinavian tour, during which he will visit Denmark and Sweden.
With the Danes, who were the first to give consent for laying the Nord Stream pipeline, he will discuss prospects for joint development of energy resources in the northern seas and cooperation in shipbuilding and the pharmaceutical industry. Deputy head of the government staff Yuri Ushakov said on the eve of the visit that Putin in Copenhagen will meet with his counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen, will give a joint press conference with him, will visit the headquarters of AP Moller-Maersk - one of the world's largest container traffic companies, and in an informal atmosphere will have a lunch with the "captains" of Danish business. The RF prime minister's work schedule also includes an audience with Queen Margrethe II, who has recently turned 71.
"Among the promising cooperation spheres is the development of hydrocarbon resources of the northern seas, interaction of the natural gas market," an RF government source said. "In addition, cooperation in such industries as shipbuilding, development of maritime transport, including transoceanic routes and the use of the Northern Sea Route, fishing, are of mutual interest." According to him, "such spheres as telecommunications, IT, aerospace and nanotechnology, medicine and education, are also of interest." The source expects that the talks' agenda will also include cooperation in the Arctic - especially within the Arctic Five and the Arctic Council formats.
According to Ushakov, the parties for the visit coordinated a substantial package of documents that includes, besides the memorandums on cooperation between the departments, the executive protocol to the agreement on r! eadmissi on and several agreements in the field of energy efficiency.
For example, Vnesheconombank (VEB) will sign a credit agreement with a group of Danish banks on the Kaluga cement plant construction project. The bank for Development will also take part in the fulfilment of the memorandum of intent on cooperation in the energy efficiency sphere between Renova and Danfoss that is to be signed on Tuesday.
Among the inter-corporate documents there will be an agreement on technological and project cooperation in modernisation of the Pikalevo complex, for which its is planned to allocate about 200 million euros, and a letter of intent between Gazprom Export and Dong Naturgas.
After ending the Danish part of the visit Putin on Tuesday will travel to Sweden where on Wednesday he will also have a working visit.
During this blitz-visit, the programme which, according to the protocol, will last less than five hours, the Russian prime minister intends to hold talks with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, to give a press conference and talk over breakfast with Swedish businesspeople. In particular, the Russian Skolkovo innovation town will get a new resident - Ericsson, which plans to open its research and development centre there.
