PBSA informs Sports Minister regarding its problems

Islamabad: A meeting of Pakistan Billiard & Snooker Association (PBSA) held here discussed in length the problems being faced by the Association with Federal Minister for Sports, Engr. Shaukatullah. Secretary Sports, Aziz Ahmed Bilour, Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, Syed Amir Hamza Gilani and others officials were present on occasion.

President PBSA, Alamgir A Shaikh briefed the Federal Minister about the accomplishments and future plans of the Association which required an approximate budget of Rs.1Crore for setting up its own infrastructure. He told that Snooker has achieved the No.1 spot in our country's sports standing in International competitions. He requested the Minister to support the PBSA by increasing the existing financial assistance which is very much insufficient to accomplish its future plans in promoting the game of Billiard & Snooker in Pakistan and to achieve the desired goal in International competitions. Federal Minister told the President PBSA that since the Ministry was also facing Financial constraints at present, he would however forward the case of the PBSA with his strong recommendation to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and would also request him to sanction the required Financial Assistance from the Government's special funds for the development of Sports.

He further assured the President PBSA that he would try and arrange a joint meeting with the Prime Minister in this regard. He apprised the Federal Minister that at present the Association is receiving an annual grant of Rs.800,000/- and a special grant of Rs.1,400,000/- annually, which is very insufficient for the PBSA to meet its domestic & international commitments. The Federal Minister assured the PBSA President that he would proposed and seek approval for the increase of the Association's annual grant to Rs.2,000,000/- and also increase the special grant to Rs.3,000,000/- in ! the fort h coming Finance Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Sports Board in July. The President PBSA informed the Federal Minister that the proposed Snooker Hall which is been built at the Gymnasium in the main PSB Hostel in Karachi for the Snooker Academy was supposed to be handed over to the PBSA in 2010, has still not been completed and handed over to the PBSA. The PBSA had proposed to install at least four Snooker Table plus a couple of Pool Tables in the Complex. The Minister assured the President PBSA that he would expedite the Snooker Academy in Karachi for the PBSA. Alamgir Shaikh said that proper coaching facility is imperative to improve the game within the country which will help PBSA to obtain the desired results in future tournaments locally as well as at International competitions. He also requested financial support for hiring coaches from India, Thailand and China. The Secretary Sports assured the President, PBSA that he would extend his full support and financial assistance to the PBSA to invite coaches for players.
